Monument & headstone resetting

A stone that has leaned or sunk can be set right.

Michigan ground moves. Freeze and thaw work on the foundation under a monument every winter, soil settles under a flat marker until the grass closes over it, and a die that has shifted off its base only leans further with each season. We lift the stone, rebuild or re-bed the setting underneath, and bring it back to level and square.

What resetting covers

  • Leaning and tipped uprights lifted, re-bedded, and brought back to plumb
  • Sunken monuments raised and re-levelled on sound footing
  • A die that has shifted or separated from its base re-set and re-pinned
  • Flat markers that have dropped below grade or been buried by turf lifted back to level
  • Cemetery coordination, so the office knows who is working on the lot and when

Why this is quoted, not priced

There is no list price for resetting and we will not guess at one. What the work costs depends on the size and weight of the monument, how far it has moved, what is left of the foundation underneath, how close a truck can get to the lot, and what the cemetery requires of whoever does the setting.

Photographs answer most of that before anyone drives out. Send a few and we will come back with what the stone needs and what it costs. Nothing is charged for the assessment.

A stone that is cracked, delaminating, or spalling may need stabilising before it can be safely lifted at all. That is one of the things the photos tell us.

How it goes

  1. You send the cemetery, the city, photos, and a short description.
  2. We review the photos against that cemetery's rules for outside setting work.
  3. You get a price and a window back — by phone or email, whichever you prefer.
  4. If you go ahead, the stone is reset and photographed before and after.

Request a reset assessment

The more of this you fill in, the fewer questions come back at you. Photos matter most.

Start typing — the list covers Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac, Oakland, and Macomb. Not listed? Type it in; small church and township grounds are welcome.
Up to six. One from straight on, one from the side showing the lean, and one of the ground around the base tells us almost everything.
Say how long it has been that way and whether anything has been done to it before.
