Custom monuments and memorial care in Saginaw
Saginaw sits outside our weekly cleaning routes, so cleaning here is arranged by a person rather than booked online. Custom monuments, laser etching, and monument resetting are quoted for Saginaw the same as anywhere else we work. The city owns three cemeteries and they are large — Forest Lawn on South Washington at 200 acres, Oakwood on Gratiot Road at 100, and Brady Hill on East Remington at 50 — and the Cemeteries Division clears every decoration twice a year, on March 1 and October 1. After those sweeps, the condition of the stone is the whole of what a visitor sees.

What Saginaw requires, and how we meet it
Artificial flowers are prohibited outright
Along with ribbons, balloons, statues, signs and toys, glass containers, shepherd's hooks and hangers, fences, curbs, ornamental gravel and stones, benches and steps, and permanent plantings including trees, shrubs, ground covers, and perennials. Items placed against the rules are removed and discarded without notice.
Everything is cleared twice a year
Scheduled cleanups fall on March 1 and October 1 annually, when all decorations are removed. A family visiting after a cleanup sees the marker and the grass and nothing else, which is a large part of why a Saginaw stone is worth keeping clean.
Upright and flush sections follow different rules
In upright sections, annual flowers may be planted within twelve inches of the marker, and movable potted plants are allowed within that same foot from a week before Memorial Day through October 1. In flush sections, cut flowers are permitted at any time in approved vases, one vase per interment. Grave blankets are permitted from November 15 to March 1 in both.
Vases have a published specification
Vases are permitted at flush markers only. They must be durable metal or plastic rather than glass, must have a sleeve and insert with a sleeve base no wider than six inches, must sit flush with the ground, and must be centred below the marker unless the Superintendent of Cemeteries approves otherwise.
Flags have a size and a season
American flags no larger than 12 by 18 inches are permitted on Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, and Veterans Day, and may remain for one week following the holiday. Booking a cleaning ahead of one of those dates is the most common request we get in Saginaw.
Rules as published by the City of Saginaw Cemeteries Division rules (see the current text). Cemetery requirements do change, so we confirm them with the office before we cut a base or set a stone.
Stones that have leaned, sunk, or come off their base
Monument and headstone resetting and levelling is quoted rather than priced from a list, because the work depends on the size of the stone, the base beneath it, and the ground it has settled into. Send photographs and the cemetery name and we will tell you what it involves.

Questions from families in Saginaw
Which cemeteries does the City of Saginaw own?
Three: Forest Lawn at 3210 S. Washington, about 200 acres; Oakwood at 6100 Gratiot Road on M-46, about 100 acres; and Brady Hill in the 300 block of East Remington Avenue, about 50 acres. The Cemeteries Division is at 1435 S. Washington Avenue, 989-759-1656. We clean at all three and at the private and church cemeteries across Saginaw County.
Are artificial flowers allowed at Saginaw's city cemeteries?
No. Artificial flowers are prohibited, as are ribbons, balloons, statues, signs, toys, glass containers, shepherd's hooks and hangers, fences, curbs, ornamental gravel and stones, benches, steps, and permanent plantings. The exception is artificial decorations attached to grave blankets or wreaths during the November 15 to March 1 window. Anything else is removed and discarded without notice.
When does Saginaw clear decorations from the graves?
Scheduled cleanups are March 1 and October 1 every year, and all decorations are removed then. Many families book a cleaning to land shortly after a cleanup or shortly before Memorial Day, so the marker is the thing that looks cared for when the ground has just been stripped.
How soon can a stone in Saginaw be cleaned, and is there a travel charge?
Saginaw County is outside our weekly cleaning routes, which run through Genesee, Lapeer, and Sanilac with selected northern Oakland and Macomb work. Call 586-404-5869 and a person will tell you honestly what we can do at your cemetery. Monument and resetting work here is quoted normally.
Do you clean headstones in Saginaw?
Routine cleaning runs through Genesee, Lapeer, Sanilac, Huron counties, with selected northern Oakland and Macomb routes, so Saginaw is outside the routine schedule. Custom monuments, laser-etched artwork, and monument resetting are still quoted here. Call 586-404-5869 and a person will tell you plainly what we can do at that cemetery.
Do you set monuments in Saginaw?
Yes. Custom monuments are drawn, etched, and set for cemeteries in Saginaw. We draw it first, you approve the drawing, then we cut, and nothing is ordered until you have seen it and know the price. Consultations are free, and we coordinate the cemetery's requirements with the office directly.
Can you reset a stone that has leaned or sunk in Saginaw?
Yes. Monument and headstone resetting and leveling is quoted rather than priced from a list, because what a stone needs depends on its size, its base, and the ground under it. Send photographs with a reset assessment request and we will tell you what the work involves.
